Hello! I hope you have had a lovely week. Here my phone is just overflowing with pics - blossom and the first magnolias and primulas and wild garlic and green buds. It has been very hard to pick one thing. Which is a treat in itself.
This is our community post in which I post one thing that I have noticed, done, eaten, smelt etc…that felt particularly ‘this week in the year’ and then you do the same, in the comments. At the end of the month I weave them all into a big poem of the month, and everyone is happy.
So without further ado…
Daffs
Clearly they are absolutely everywhere at the moment and just a sunny simple joy, but it’s so easy to discount the common once it is common, and this weekly post is about what we see around us and I just see daffs everywhere. This particular batch is here for a reason though. If you follow the Sunday chat you will know that we do ‘Usual Spot’ at the beginning of each month: we each choose a spot that we can regularly visit through the year, and then we share pictures of it on the first Sunday of each month, to see how it changes with the seasons. I specifically chose my usual spot this year - a tree and fence overlooking part of my local common - because I know there is this swath of daffs under the tree. ‘Ooh that will look beautiful in the March one’ I thought…but in fact no flowers were out by the first Sunday in March and I suspect they will be over by the first Sunday in April! So here they are.
That’s it from me. If you haven’t found the chat yet, we all gather there and share pictures on a Sunday morning, so please do join us.
Now over to you. What have you seen/done/spotted/heard/eaten this week that felt particular to this moment in the year?
Driving home as the full moon rose in a purple haze, a huge barn owl took flight alongside me.
All of a sudden the blackthorn blossom is out! Drove past hedges of it at twilight last Tuesday and saw it smothering the branches; great clouds of tiny white flowers glowing under streetlights, almost like newly gathered snow. ☺️🤍
