Hello! I hope you have had a lovely first week of July. Thank you for all of your gorgeous reactions to the Big Beautiful June Poem, I loved it too. Are we ready to do it all again for July?
This, for newcomers, is our weekly community post in which I write about something I have done/seen/eaten/smelt that could only have happened in this particular week of the year, and then you join in in the comments with yours. At the end of the month I gather all of your comments into a big poem of sorts that tracks the month’s changes. It’s simple, but it just kind of works, and somehow all these little moments make up a big load of magic. You can find June’s here.
And here is my first for July:
Dogs at polling stations
What else could it be this week other than the General Election? I know there are lots of readers from around the world here so please do indulge us a mo because we have been through a lot…and this might be a turning point. I can’t say too much here as I am writing this on Thursday, and by the time you read this on Friday morning everything will most likely be decided. There are signs of hope, but that is all I will say for now as I know hope can be dashed.
I love polling day, especially as it often lands in summer (usually earlier than this though). When the kids were little we always took them voting with us and made it a thing to all get ice cream after, my idea being to sneakily make a neural pathway between voting and sweet treats. My son, who has just come with me and voted in his first general election, is very enthused by voting, so I think that might have worked. Or he is just a politically engaged young man…or maybe both.
A very cute tradition of UK elections is the #dogsatpollingstations hashtag of Instagram and Twitter, and we took ours along and joined in.
That’s it from me.
What have you done, seen or eaten this week that felt particularly ‘this week’? Please leave your answers in the comments.
I haven't contributed much over this last 5 months, my mother passed away and it has left me in a funny odd place. But. yesterday -I went to the Hampton Court Flower show-sat in the wind and the sun, spent some money and soaked the atmosphere up, It was a real treat
The heady scent of lime trees in flower filling the air on my evening strolls.
