Spent a lot of time this week in hospital as a day patient, so full of gratitude for compassion and care; and outside everything feels so intensely beautiful and vital. Green fuses everywhere!

Working in Chichester , and early this week took myself off to Bracklesham Bay as Id checked the tide and it was within the two hour window. Not many people there at 9am, easy to park and pay, and went straight in for a swim, and within minutes was surrounded by riders on horseback and both me and the horses whinnying at me and the riders were all like 6 year olds full of glee and delight at this morning encounter and just utterly joyous. Followed by a magnificent healthy breakfast at the Beach cafe. Endorphins a gogo!

The heat, the heat! Inescapable heat, overwhelming, overbearing. Sleeping with the fan full blast. The cat is extremely cranky!

Incredible how many butterflies and moths I’m seeing, of all colours and varieties.

Watching a vortex of swifts circling and shrieking overhead, their flight almost dizzying

Too hot in my room so I try to sleep under the stars, the wide span of the Summer Triangle above, a fat crescent moon rising…but soon get woken by fox cubs fighting and hungry mosquitoes 🦟

Dreich! The artificial grass is finally gone from the garden. 🥳 Time for a more nature friendly approach. Dark, heavy clouds. Rising river levels. Roads are quieter as the schools are now on holiday. Fledgling House Martins whizzing about now the sun has made an appearance.

Your Cornish holiday looks wonderful.

There are treasures in the garden, despite the heat. It's an umbels phase, with bronze fennel, daucus carrots and Ammi especially relishing their status as glamorous nectar platforms. Very pleased with the bits I've grown from seeds or cuttings. And note to self - plant even more allium sphaerocephalc - they are happy in this heat. I, however, am not thriving, it must be said. I do long for a perfectly clement 22 degree kinda day...

Looks like a wonderful Cornish week Lia.

I am hankering for sea breezes but have to wait. The blackberries and alpine strawberries are ripening fast and keep coming in the spot behind the bin shed and the blackbirds are feasting. Windows open at night and firmly closed and shuttered in the morning, I’m out early to cooling galleries. To live as if in Madrid, afternoon siesta wishing for a ‘pasao’.

I am apologising to bees every time I go in or out of my front door, brushing past the lavender spilling drunkenly onto the path and disturbing them from where they’re busily exploring the mass of purple. I hope one doesn’t fly up my skirt and get angry.

Harvested the first of the mini munch cucumbers, and now using them to flavour iced water!

Hot! hot! hot! Everything in the garden is wilting, including us! Early morning walks and using water spray to give our dogs some relief.

A very warm early morning walk. Bright yellow ragwort tracing lines round the field margins.

Hot, hot, hot! Have spent much of the week getting necessary tasks completed by 10 then pottering in the shaded parts of the garden watching invertebrates of all sizes and hues on the opening sea holly, big bees in the hollyhocks, blackbirds bathing several times a day and rereading novels in the dappled shade of the apple tree or watching Wimbledon in the shaded lounge with our local sparrows chittering in the background. Everywhere here on the south coast is so parched and rain long overdue.

A rose, planted four years ago, is in bloom for the first time. It's so pretty that it was worth the wait. It obviously likes the heat.

Pretty pink Field Bindweed along the footpath edges.

Agreed, almost looking forward to when we are all complaining it’s too cold

Hot! hot, hot again this week! Football chat and merch everywhere you look! Using water spray to give my dogs some relief. Everything in the garden is wilting, including us!
