Hello!
And before anything else a big apology for just…dropping out of the picture last week. We have no week 31! We will never know what happened in week 31! It will forever be a gap in our record of the year. We also completely failed to do our Sunday seasonal pics chat, which also means we didn’t do our ‘usual spot’. Gah.
But all will be remedied. I limped back from my holiday with Covid - I now know - and just about managed to press the button on the Big Beautiful July Poem and that was that. Brain closed down. I knew you would forgive me.
Anyway I’m back and feeling much better finally, though it’s taken a while. Nasty business.
This is our weekly community post in which we track the minutiae of the year, week by week, giving each other little windows into each others’ seasonal changes by answering the question: what was particularly ‘this week’ about this week? What happened that could only have happened this week of the year?
I go first and then you follow up in the comments and at the end of the month we compile them all into a big beautiful poem of the month.
Here’s mine:
Cruising
There’s almost too much to say about this but I was giving talks on a Cunard cruise through the Adriatic, which meant that I got to visit some incredible places such as Corfu Town, Dubrovnik and Kotor (but also that I got Covid…). I saw scenes like this…
And this…
…And this…
Many, many beautiful times. What a joy to be in such a magical part of the world at this time of year, and to watch the land green and feel the temperature of the water change as we moved north, though never to anything less than lush.
That’s it from me…except to say that as I said at the top, we will be sharing out ‘Usual Spots’ on the chat on Sunday morning. These are the places where we take one snap a month, to see how they change over the year. It isn’t too late to join in now if you haven’t already. If you have already then get your snap lined up for Sunday.
I promise to be there this time!
Now please let us know: what have you done/baked/watched on telly/smelt/eaten/ jumped into this week that felt particularly ‘this week’? Leave your comments below.
Welcome back! We realised you were not feeling great so we did week 31 and the Sunday pics by ourselves.
A couple of days back on the Isle of Wight, golden fields peppered with massive circular bales and cool, leafy hollow-ways. Lavender and roses going over, the scent of a crushed myrtle leaf.
Glad you're better Lia. I ducked out myself in May, as, after wishing Sue well with her treatment, I found a lump myself. I have not noticed much around me since, as have been caught up with tests and scans and poking and prodding and the diagnosis I had been dreading... I had surgery to remove said lump and lymph nodes on Wednesday, and already I feel lighter and ready to immerse myself in nature to recover. Just looked out the window to see my chicory blooming in the morning sun, and too many butterflies to count on my many buddleia bushes. It might just be me and my situation, but has anyone else noticed that, despite the balmy daytime temperatures and sun, on an evening, the darkness sets very quickly and there's a chill in the air that feels distinctly Autumnal? It has been a very odd year, in so many levels.
