Hello! how has your week been? Frosty and misty and chilled? Because that’s how it’s been here. I don’t think anyone wants this to become a diary of my home renovations but it has all been so overwhelming that I find it keeps on spilling over - I’m sorry, the end really is in sight now. But I have spent the entire week painting. So fun at first! All clean and fresh and bright. So quickly palling! Lord, I am sick of it now…
As ever it is the dogs that keep me connected to the natural world at these moments, with their very pressing need to sniff bottoms and wee on things twice a day. So I have been out and about every morning but I can’t say I have noticed many changes. It all feels very chilled, stilled and wintry, February is being a true winter month this time. All the more of a treat when March suddenly appears (we hope…)
This is our weekly community post in which i tell you something I have noticed that felt particularly seasonal this week, and then you tell me yours, in the comments, and at the end of the month i bundle them all up into a big, beautiful poem of the month (find January’s here).
Here’s mine:
Misty morning beauty
Just a beautiful moment, opening the curtains onto a land of thick mist. The park was so frozen that the dogs’ feet didn’t get muddy, they just skittered across the top, and that always makes for a good morning. Stunning. I took a whole load of photos, but I like this one.
That’s it from me, except to say that this Sunday morning we will be doing ‘usual spot’ in the chat part of the app. We were meant to do it last week but I forgot to warn everyone so please get your usual spot snaps lined up. ‘Usual spot’ is where we take a picture of the same spot on or around the first Sunday of every month, and share them to see how they change. We do a big round up at the end of the year too.
Speaking of which, at the beginning of the year a couple of you mentioned the idea of keeping a diary of the comments you leave here each week, and so I wanted to share that thought with you all in case others wanted to do it. You could then make your very own personal ‘big beautiful poem of the year’! And share it with us or on your own substacks or just keep it for your own record of the year past.
Anyway, now over to you. What have you eaten/spotted in the supermarket/smelt/baked etc etc that felt particularly ‘this moment in the year’?
Walking to my parents through the churchyard at the same time every evening, it was light last night whereas it was still dark last week - I'd hardly noticed the shift until then!
Standing at the backdoor with a cup of tea to enjoy a perfectly timed sunset and dusk chorus featuring the first thrush I've listened to here for too many years.
