Hello!
Welcome to our weekly check in on the seasons - and here June is continuing in a vaguely disappointing manner. It’s cold! It’s not meant to be like this! And yet here I am with my big cardi on and my fingerless gloves at my computer like its autumn. Come on summer…you can do it…
In this weekly post I tell you something that felt particularly ‘this week’ about this week, and then you tell me yours. Then we gather them all up at the end of the month and look over the month past.
So here’s mine:
Eating outdoors…once
There was actually a day, I think it was Saturday, when the temperature rose and the garden felt balmy and I finally moved all of my tender plants out of the greenhouse onto the deck and it really felt like summer had arrived. So thrilled was I that I made everyone sit outside to eat. They actually grumbled, the buggers, but I am now so glad I did because…was that it? I swear we normally get a first taste of doing this in April and yet here we are, grateful for a single dinner outside in JUNE.
As I write it is very much not eating outside weather, so I am very glad I nagged everyone into it. Let’s hope it’s not too long before it comes around again. One of my favourite things.
That’s it from me, now over to you: what have you eaten/spotted/sniffed/baked/sipped this week that felt particularly ‘this week in the year’?

A group of baby wrens tumbled out of the hedge following the adult bird looking very much like pom poms with beaks - collectively called a chime which is a bit lovely. So sweet to see.
After spending more than 20 minutes looking at screens, I always head to the balcony to gaze into the distance and take at least a three-minute break. My balcony is filled with plants, so it's a frequent spot for bees to visit. When I rest my eyes, the bees often fly around within 10-20 centimeters of me. I'm not scared of them, I know they're not interested in me. Their visits remind me that I'm taking good care of those plants, and of myself.
