I pass through a business park on my way to the gym and never noticed the few apple trees planted at one corner of the car park. But this past week, several windfall apples were lying on the mulch below. The next day, I brought my shopping bag and collected most of what lay on the ground (left a few for squirrels, birds, and other city dwellers). They came to about a kilo of apples; today I'm turning them into apple butter. :)
Neither as we don't celebrate Halloween - they are for our church lunch tomorrow (celebrating with one of our young guys who is getting married in 2 weeks) and our Light event on Monday evening.
I am glad to see those pumpkins are actually pumpkins - s you know, few things annoy me more than squash being called pumpkins. It should be a capital offence
I spotted a group of puffball mushrooms, plus some jelly ear fungus in my local nature reserve. Love looking for new fungi varieties at this time of year.
It’s something I don’t know much about. Would love to learn. They are popping up all over the common where I walk the dogs, it would be great to be able to make a few more.
I’m working my way through a huge box of green tomatoes ( picked at the end of the season still unripe) which are turning red day by day - I try to use them in cooking, or in salads and turn the big ones into sauces and ketchup. Also I’ve begun knitting small poppies to wear in November and give away.

What a ridiculously autumnal thing to do. I imagine your kitchen smells pretty wonderful now…
Had never heard of apple butter, but definitely making some now I’ve looked it up!
It’s so yummy. I love any excuse to use cloves. :)
The smell of the leaves as I gather them up to make leaf mould compost.
Oh I love this, yes! Made me take a deep breath in. I must do this too.
I had an Autumnal baking afternoon today. Gingerbread and Soul Cakes. Only ever make them at this time of year!
Gorgeous! But will you dare to present them to your trick or treaters or are you going for the more traditional ‘box of Celebrations’ offering?

Ah well I bet they’ll go down very well

I am nothing if not botanically correct. Thank you for signing up! x

I made barm brack today, which tells me it's well and truly Halloween season!
Oh yes very Halloweeny!
I’ve just made this year’s batch of sloe gin and learnt how to make a macrame plant pot hanger! 💛🍂🌙
