Love this so much, I think I say that every time! It has a real harvest feel, and lots of tiny moments to highlight the flora and fauna changing. Wistful and joyful and funny all at the same time.
As August draws to a close and we move into September it is easy to forget what happened and what August gave us. These poems are a great way to remember and to be grateful for what nature brings each month .
I think this monthly poem means more to me than any other ever, because it describes so many things I’d love to have done in August but couldn’t. It is doubly precious to enjoy those experience second hand. Thank you everyone who contributed - that’s the beauty of this community! The communal, shared nature of it. I’ve got my breast surgery in September - mastectomy and lymph node removal, so the story continues. …..
Oh Sue, that is so poignant and lovely and tough, but you always do see the bright side. You're amazing. I hope you know we are all thinking of you through these tough times xx
So wonderful to read this and see how the month has unfolded and what has been observed and enjoyed through the month. I definitely don’t feel ready yet for the shift into autumn but all of these remind me there is so much for us all to enjoy.
I love all the spiders creeping into this one! 🕸️ I'm one of the people relishing the approach of autumn but the bittersweetness and ambivalence of this poem is very poignant.
Yes we do! It's always so gorgeous, I have such material to work with... In fact your comment has made me think maybe I should do one big end-of-year poem with highlights from each...for the 31st December. That might be quite magic x
So lovely. The transition from August to September always feels a big one psychologically but thanks for reminding me there’s lots to appreciate and savour about every season.

I enjoy these end of month poems, this really does sum up the end of summer. The last line about the black bear made my jaw drop!! Wow!

Thank you, again, for weaving this together! It makes such a difference to the days marking and celebrating the small things.
