As I drove to work one morning this week a large group of Swans ( called a wedge apparently) flew majestically over the road. You could hear the rustle of air over their huge wings- glorious
Oh yes, the oak trees are looking magnificent finally aren't they. And looking down to their leaves underfoot. The shape of their leaves adds so much more pattern to the ground.
My thing this weekend was the awe and wonder of looking out at a huge sunset horizon from Froggatt edge, it's a long time since I've been able to see the world from a high point like that due to chronic illness, but accessing Froggatt is an easy way to walk into wonder.
Ah how gorgeous. I was thinking yesterday I need to get out of the city as it gets more wintry, see some stubbly fields and smoky sunsets. So glad you were able to get out x
I’ve welcomed the birds back into my garden this week with a clean and refill of the feeders. I’m always so happy to see all the varieties we get having moved from the town to the countryside last year, this is one of my biggest joys.
Ah lovely. We had a load of starlings in the garden the other morning, with all their funny trills and beeps. Not usual for us and they didn’t stay long, but a good winter bird.
I was inspired to walk around the garden after reading your piece and my three things would be holly berries, lichen exposed on the bare trees (great for Christmas decorations) and, ridiculously, a bright sunshiny pot marigold that as miraculously popped up in unmowed grass, looking very unseasonal, but extremely brave. Hi Sally! they do pop up whenever don’t they. Hope you’re gathering your bits now for Christmas decs before the birds eat the berries. And lovely to hear you were inspired! x
My Christmas cactus doesn’t care what the calendar says and flowers its socks off every November. In full bloom and looking very glamorous with the sun streaming through the window today.
It is quite something to start to see the shape it’s going to be when it’s really old and gnarled, that kink in the stem, and the way it is stretching out each side.
We took a trip to Leighton Moss nature reserve in Lancashire and spotted marsh harriers circling the reedbeds in the autumn sunshine. It was such a beautiful day.

That must have been incredible! And thank you for the collective noun, I haven’t heard that before.
This morning, while walking the dog in the woods, I came across this which made my day

I love that! So much care taken. Someone had a fun few hours.

I have noticed the Japanese maple tree in my neighborhood is finally starting to turn
Always the last to go! And the most spectacular.

November cactus doesn’t have the same ring does it… There’s plenty else to look at at Christmas anyway!
Such a beautiful tree growing so well too

Oh how gorgeous. Amazing time to visit.
So lovely to hear about your connection to the oak tree and it is looking truly magnificent!
Thank you! I am proud!
That sounds wonderful. And I think beech is going to feature in my next post…maybe it’s its week!
