Hello! I hope you have had a good week and not been too soaked through. Here we have had torrential rain thundering down on the veranda roof - which I completely love, gutters splashing and the hardy banana leaves just beyond the shelter slick and shiny like we are in the tropics - and we’ve also had a bit of light flooding in the garden, which I’m not so fond of. And then the clouds have suddenly cleared and there have been perfect autumnal days. The mud is gathering strength underfoot in the park and we have had a quince and apple crumble. I have a beautiful new lambswool cardi that i am currently living in. All goes along very autumnally.
This is our community post in which I tell you something that I have noticed/done/eaten/bought/whatever this week that felt particularly ‘this week in the year’ and then you tell me yours, in the comments.
There have been lots to choose from this week, but here’s mine:
First winter sunrise
It is absolutely not winter yet but I associate sunrises with winter because that is usually when my walk coincides with them. I realise I am getting a little pre-end-of-British-Summer-Time sunrise preview this week - just when I get in step with sunrise the hour will change and it will be light again when I am out and about. It’s a good thing, but nice to be reminded of one of the beautiful things about the darker season to come.
That’s it from me this week, except to say…anyone started their Christmas shopping yet? If so you might be interested in my lovely little almanac, just the perfect size to slip into a stocking or to gift someone for Jolabokaflod… very neat and packed full of all the sorts of things we love on here. Do have a peek.
Please leave your comments below. What have you eaten/spotted/sensed/gazed at/ baked this week that felt particularly ‘this week’?
I can’t wait to hear all about it.
More than 100 grey seals hauled out on the beach in a Cornish cove as we hit peak pupping season.
The first foggy start of the season today following late- night blanket-clad time spent in the garden gazing up at the full moon.
