The bunny ear covers have been pushed off the magnolia flowers and it will be a matter of days before the flowers open into their delicate pink white beauty.
Weeding the beds in the garden this week ready for a big mulching session. Enjoying all the signs of spring and also knowing that March will keep taking us back to winter if it feels like it. Currently watching the torrential sleety rain outside, coffee in hand.
Watching the yearly miracle that is our pink cherry tree begin to unfold …. With big buds on every branch showing an edge of frilly pink about to emerge. Maybe when this endless rain stops? A definite feeling that everything is holding its breath waiting, waiting but maybe thats just me …..
A pair of dunnocks doing a funny hopping and stopping dance on the path - which lead to a moment of flutter and I would imagine a couple of eggs laid in the nest under the hedge. Nature in action!
The optimism of the birds, in spite of the relentless rain; likewise the joy and defiance of yellow at this time of year, with the daffodils, forsythia and primroses relishing their Springtime heralding.
I’m noticing rookeries everywhere. In the tallest of trees and in the busiest of places (large one next to the A1); these most sociable of birds are noisily nest building.
An unexpected hole in our kitchen roof - so much more light, early and late afternoon, clear bright chill (but bearable) and a few dry days. So lucky to get it fixed quickly without undue fuss, but also to feel the year turning, bright stars and big blue skies overhead.
The ponds near my house are almost clear of ice and there are ducks out on the clearing water. Just hearing birds when I step outside feels like a revelation!
It is Magnolia Buds lbulbous sticky to the fingers and then a blaze of delicate hues lush pinks in the botanical gardens and a whiter shade of pale in the urban glimpses .Snowdrops still giving late and rather beauteous in all their forms grand bells and tiny peepers 🍃🌱🌿
Huge clumps of daffodils lining the grassy verges and then random solitary ones popping up in unusual places. My echinop seeds starting to come up (very excited as first time planting - tips welcomed). And the birds. So much song and energy as they dance about on branches and scuttle about on the ground.
it's springing so slowly, occasional glimpses of sun on the hellebores and an amazing red/orange sunrise the other morning, but mostly otherwise it's rain, and/or very cold wind. I'm still in jigsaw mode.

Little pops of yellow on my walk that promise the spring and valiantly battle with the gusty winds and what seems like ceaseless rain
