Baby foxes, who look like tiny fluffy teddy bears, shyly emerging from ivy undergrowth

I couldn’t work out why the extractor fan was making so much of a clattering noise where the vent was - I finally braved the rain - and it had two blue tits in it. Probably scoping for a nest (no eggs in there thankfully) but I gently encouraged them out - as much as I love nature I don’t really want chicks in the cooker hood. And they would have had very hot bottoms!

Too wet to do anything much in Edinburgh this week and desperately seeking ‘glimmers’ amongst the gloom: the dawn chorus is getting louder and busier each morning, but the superstar here is the blackbird with his sweet, melodic tunes; charming and excitable ‘volery’ (?) of long-tailed tits chittering in the branches overhead; bright, soft leaves unfurling and seeking sunlight to convert into essential energy and oxygen. ‘By leaves we live’ (Patrick Geddes)

It’s so wet here isn’t it? Constantly raining at the moment. I have to agree that the blackbird, is the star of the show right now.

Greenhouse living this week . Trays of seeds planted . Some of the seeds I was gifted for Valentine’s Day . I did two trays of cosmos. And within three days the shell cosmos came up ! So quick . I light a little red jos stick listen to a pod cast . It’s a warm dry space in all this rain.

Not letting the rain deter me from my morning coffee in the garden, my raincoat and wellies sheltering me from the worst of the weather. The absolute joy of starting the day with birdsong.

It’s the best tonic isn’t it Amy. Are you in Edinburgh too? Do you have any exciting wee birds in your garden? I’ve been using Merlin in the mornings trying to identify all the different birds I can hear and am amazed by how many different birds are out there.

Merlin is a brilliant App - I’m always amazed by the variety of birds out there too!

We have so many Sparrows, a wee Robin and a blackbird. I like the sound of the Merlin app, I’ll have to get it.

Two nights away in beautiful Whitby, a really magical place for me, with years and years of memories. All the way up there from Sheffield, daffodils everywhere and bright green hawthorn. A wild North Sea and an incredible sky, with everything at once - iron grey, bright blue, fog and mist, rain, drizzle and bright sunshine, all wrapped up in the energy of the wind.

I used to live in Scarborough for a while a long long time ago but never ventured to Whitby - so we decided to go on a break there a couple of years ago. It’s beautiful, and so atmospheric. Sounds like a wonderful trip.

What a beautiful table, I think it deserves 2 posts. Easter weekend was low key in my house, celebrated Ostara, so used the time to recharge as work has been a little intense. Have managed a little time in the garden, cleaning and refilling bird feeders and getting very excited at the promise of things to come as everything becomes green and new leaves/buds appear daily. Trying not to look too far ahead and enjoy the glory of now, a quiet moment alone meditating in the garden 🪴

Walking home from the community garden, where I had planted out my potatoes (pink fir apples, which I hear with trepidation are quite tricky?!) and sown some pumpkins in the poly tunnel. I looked up and saw a pair of magpies pulling twigs off a tree - presumably for their nest. Delightful, and a welcome respite from the rain (which Sasha is right about, jeezo Edinburgh, can we give it a rest please)

I’ve grown fur apples for 20 years . Always grew five . Different soils etc’

Best to harvest just before the tops totally wilt . Watch for blight.

They are definitely odd looking .

I heard they're delicious, which is why I'm growing them! but perhaps not a smart choice for my first potato crop. I will keep a diligent eye for blight!!

Sounds of spring all day and through the night but winter is not finished with us...yesterday another dump of wet snow that this morning has frozen emerging daffodils into place. Sigh.

The chorus of birds has become overwhelming (charmingly so) on my walks! Last night was the last below freezing night of this winter, and it feels like we have finally turned the page on spring. 🌱

Easter egg hunt in the garden with my 3 year old granddaughter, eggs falling out of her tiny basket, so they are waiting in the grass to be found again.

Wet knees and socks from trying yet again to lie on the grass....
