wow. i grew 2 apricot trees from stones a couple of years ago and one has its first real fruit on it. i also have a bed of alpine strawberries that are covered in tiny red fruit
Hearing and seeing more thrushes than I’ve seen for a long time in our part of Sheffield. Noticing tiny conkers on the horse chestnuts. Being up far too early because it’s so light and I can’t get back to sleep…
A trip to Suffolk gifted wide skies, flat landscapes, marshes, shingle and hearing a cuckoo for the first time in my life! What a joy. Goodness - what most of us have lost.
I heard my very first Cumbrian cuckoo and I’ve been here 8 years now … I was absolutely thrilled to bits but nobody else was here to share it and I haven’t heard it again! In a way it’s not a bad thing because I look after (ok, I give them daily food and water, and talk to them a lot, plus provide good bathing facilities) a flock of garden birds and I know Cuckoos are very naughty when they are reproducing!!
Yesterday was a peculiar day, warm and dry but very windy. We walked near reed beds, while there was no discernible scent the sound of the wind in the reeds was so calming with the leaves and the clouds racing by.
i have been feeding hedgehogs in my garden for about 15 years. i would regularly see them on the wildlife camera and when it was the height of summer and lighter till later we would actually see them running up the garden towards the food. then last year i didnt see a single one. i was really worried about that. then this year i saw one in march as i went to put something in the bin before bed. it was curled up next to the doorstep and i hoped that meant they were back and began putting out food again. unfortunately i have not seen a single sign of a hedgehog since and all the food remains untouched. it is good to hear that you have seen signs of one.
I have wandered through tall blowsy daisies and swathes of cow parsley visiting The Temple of Vaccinia deep in the countryside chasing the heroic act of ecologies of protection by Edward Jenner . The Severn Vsle is full of wildflowers including the rambling roses and now poppies so verdant after the rain showers 🌿🌱🌞
I've been surrounded by roses as well, our bushes are heavy with pink and yellow flowers...
Those moments when I'm out in the garden reading and the breeze carries the scent of elderflowers. And making elderflower cordial from the black elder blossom, yields a stronger flavour and a gorgeous pink coloured drink!
The contrast between the damp quiet of pre-dawn and the windy sunshine of later in the day, the constant being me and the pushchair in the same streets
Cherries have arrived. A lifetime of summer memories flood back while eating a bowl full pulled from the refrigerator while watching the crescent moon set.
a family of bluetits visiting the hanging birdtable several times a day. mum, dad and 4 still fluffy youngsters. the kids sit on the bars of the hanging bracket and mum and dad land on the feeder for mealworms or hang upside down on the coconut shell fat feeder and then take the food up and feed their brood who accept each morsel with great enthusiasm
The apricot tree that I grew from a stone has it’s first fruit. And the alpine strawberries keep on giving sweet pops of red, over 20 years.

We’ve also noticed lots of thrushes. So lovely to see.

Grateful for some rain this week, sharp sweetness of the first rhubarb from garden.
Yesterday, the first strawberries from the allotment. So sweet, juicy and warm from the sun.
Remembering Oak Apple Day or Shick Shack Day !
