We were sitting by the river Wharfe in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales yesterday when a stoat popped up a few metres away, stared at us briefly and disappeared. In the evening a barn owl flew right in front of us when we were driving back from the pub. Only brief glimpses, but so magical.
London has been sweltering, windows and curtains have to stay closed during the day. It’s so good to open up in the evenings and watch the bats and there have been fox cubs too.
A leisurely drive home from a midweek night out, watching the sky fill with sunset colours and then standing in the front garden to listen to the birds' twilight chorus in full flow at 10pm.
Oh the green glowing translucent fat gooseberries can they be ripe already ? Picking mugwort along a chalk stream now empty for the summer months allowing us to walk up the riverbed with a memory of rushing water from the winter months . Sabrina our River Severn is lined with sea bindweed and where there are inlets water lilies tree branches kiss her shore and the sandbanks glow in all their sink mud glory .Summer is time for dreamy walks & foraging 🌱🌿🌞
The heat makes the air feel like soup. Nights are as stuffy as days. I lie outside under the stars of Summer Triangle as fox cubs yelp in the allotment next door.
Now the humidity is gone, for a bit. Hearing the rain and smelling the petrichor was blissful, if short lived…
In a little reverie, imagining the smell of rain on petrichor while looking out at rain on asphalt, the smell of which is also distinct, but so different!
The butterfly dance ,as I sit in the shade of the walnut tree ,the red admirals and the large white are literally dancing from plant to plant , loving the lavender and all the summer blooms ,.
It’s been sweltering and then cool here in Lancashire. The fluffy cat from down the road has been lazily watching the sparrows flit between the hedge and the shrubs in the garden, it’s got absolutely no chance of catching any.
Another day begins with a miraculous, dream-filled bluest sky. The dawn chorus is having a lie in, with just a couple of reedy voices singing into the silence. Pigeon dub continues unabated. A patch of reddish earth with large cracks has appeared in the lawn; a portent of drought or a portal to the underworld?
The garlic scapes just showed up, seemingly overnight. One day you look and perhaps find one or two, the next day we picked about 60. Planning to make pesto and all cooking will be seasoned with these wonderful garlic tops. Catskills NY
Garden overflowing with colour. Praying for rain for the plants, the trees, birds and animals. The ground is parched and crying out for some wonderful wet water!
The rainy season arrived and the water out back is now deep enough for the wading birds. A pair of yellow capped night herons dominate the scene, he bold enough to be on the lawn in full daylight while she keeps to the sylvan edge. I wonder if there are babies?
Up in Ayrshire it's turned cool with sunny spells and heavy showers.
A magical close encounter with a young deer by the work pond yesterday.
A riot of colourful wild flowers in the middle of the village roundabout makes me smile.
20 days till we move to a place with a garden. I'm beyond excited to get started making it wildlife friendly!
The lavender is glowing and thrilling the bees. My lawn crunches under foot currently - and could do with a little of the wet stuff.

What wonderful encounters Anne! How lucky!
Magical indeed as these brief brushes with wildlife always are - when our worlds overlap for a few seconds!
what a blessing to meet with these other -than - human beings
The only word that popped into my head was magical. It’s safe to say we are thinking on the same lines.

The holly tree is laden with green berries, does that mean we are in for a hard winter?
The cracks in my flower beds are deep enough to put my hand in, and the tulip and daffodil bulbs are erupting on the surface. Rain please....
a couple of my holly bushes have got little green berries on them. i did not know that was supposed to be a sign of a hard winter.
it's a saying I grew up with, no idea if there is truth in it, we'll see...the berries are certainly abundant
Gasp! There among the bees on the lavender 2 hummingbird hawk moths!

Saw a comma butterfly today - first time ever
How wonderful!
